Lead User Experience Designer

WebFirst is seeking a Sr. / Lead User Experience Designer to work with our federal agency partners, which are some of the most well-respected names in health, the environment and agriculture. Federal agencies require assistance with their digital experiences and services – to improve design with the public’s needs and priorities in mind. To address this need, a government-wide effort is underway to redesign their digital channels, to deliver a simple and seamless customer experience on par with leading consumer experiences.
Roles and Responsibilities
The Lead UX Designer will work closely with our client stakeholders to create and foster a customer-centered mindset in its organizational culture. The designer will assist in identifying top task(s), forming a strategy and roadmap, along with introducing communication channels to make our client’s customers’ experiences “real” via communication of qualitative research and quantitative data. The designer will also introduce various user experience and content activities, and best practices and quality measurements to provide a framework in which design and ideation can thrive.
The Lead UX Designer is a significant and impactful designer working with Content Strategists, User Experience Researcher, and UX Designers to understand our clients’ business models and goals and will help to define strategy and features for their web sites. The focus will be to improve the customer experience and user experience with respect to the federal website.
Manage a small staff of 3-4 individuals to include 1-on-1’s, career development, and performance reviews, and mentoring of other teammates.
Day-to-day may consist of:
Leading a small team of a designer, content strategist and researcher in project work
Creating user flows, wireframes, and mockups
Developing prototypes to test and validate designs
Presenting work to stakeholders at various levels
Determining project requirements and specifications
Analyzing audiences and their informational and functional needs
Developing and executing a content strategy that aligns with the client’s strategic goals
Establishing governance guidelines that maintain content best practices and standards across multiple websites
At least six years of experience working in CX, UX/UI, and Content Strategy, which includes at least two years of experience leading other designers and cross-functional teammates through the design process
At least one year of management experience
Experience in government setting or an industry that is complex and regulated by policy and/or law
Ability to lead a team, foster strong communications, and build consensus both on the client side and internal WebFirst team
Ability to work through the design process from discovery through validation and implementation
Understanding of content management systems such as Drupal is a plus.
Understanding of federal standards such as 21st Century IDEA, OMB M-23-22, OMB M-24-08, Section 508, USWDS etc.
Possess excellent analytical, verbal, and written communication skills
Must be able to obtain Public Trust Clearance
