Mobile Data Collection in Haiti

HavServe recognizes community-based development as a moral, strategic, and economic imperative, and fully embrace the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) as an effective tool for improving a country through its villages.

In the village of Lebrun, Haiti, HavServe wanted to create a comprehensive assessment system that can evaluate a student’s intellectual growth to be used for their Primary Education Program. WebFirst’s mobile data collection system, called PhiCollect, turned out to be the ideal solution! With PhiCollect, WebFirst will help Havserve track and assess a student’s learning curve to identify their educational strengths and weaknesses. By collecting this data, HavServe will gain insight on the subject weakness of their students which allowed the proper teachers to be hired. Moreover, PhiCollect will also be used to help Havserve identify logistical needs (training programs, school supplies etc.) that are most needed and deliver them to the optimal location. PhiCollect uses an innovative approach to mobile data collection - combining the best of Open Data Kit with the Drupal Content Management System. The project is currently underway with the first set of metrics to be released in March of 2013.
